It's time for me to break down and get my first dog.  I have a two year
old son, a house and two fairly well adjusted cats.

I have my eye on three breeds:  Golden Retrievers, Samoyeds and
Bernese Mountain Dogs.  I've had unsolicited advice about the relative
merits of them all (the upshot of which is usually "Buy a mutt!").

I'm particularly interested in hearing from owners of Samoyeds and
Bernese Mountain Dogs.  What are the tricks and traps?  Any conditions
that I should *absolutely* meet before buying one of these?
