Do you honestly believe that if the US became more docile that the attacks would stop? There has been a rationale on the net (as well as other places) concerning terrorism/hijacking that is remarkably similar to the following line of thinking: If a woman is attacked, she asked for it. Her attacker hates women, because his mother/wife/whoever did him wrong, and so he sees women as the cause of all his problems. Since she is a woman, she drove him to do it.
