The year is 1987... U.S. President Ronald Reagan dies after a long battle with cancer... George Bush takes over the reins of power... With the Great Communicator dead, the American people perceive more clearly the right-wing policies of the U.S. government... The Republicans start to slip in the polls... George Bush gracefully declines to run in 1988, knowing that they would get decimated... And so who does the Republican Party push into the Presidential race?... That's right, NANCY REAGAN!! Don't laugh, it could happen! If the G.C. bites the biscuit, the Republicans will be in great need of someone closely associated with the Reagan *image*, since that's basically what the Presidency is based on. (Besides, Nancy has about as much qualification to be President as Ronnie does... :-) And I understand that Nancy already has a lot of clout in the Oval Office. I can see it now... Endorsements flood in from Phyllis Schlafly and her buddies as they re-activate their anti-ERA political network: "Nancy Reagan, having fulfilled her motherly and wifely duties in life, is now free to pursue her political career" -- though not, of course, without a frequent tear in her eye and a wish that Ronnie "were here to guide me." Yes, the death of Ronald Reagan might just be the best thing that could happen to the Republican Party in 1987 or so, because it will give them the chance they need to keep the Reagan *magic*, the Reagan *image*, the Reagan *politics*, the Reagan *NAME* IN POWER UNTIL 1996!!! Put that in your closet of anxieties, Binkley... Nancy Reagan has the best chance of *anyone* to become the first woman President of the U.S.! --Jamie.
