I heard those references to Mordor and Gollum in "Ramble On", too. Ever since, "Stairway to Heaven" (the last cut on the album) seemed to be telling the story of Saruman's trip west after the destruction of the Ring. (THE RETURN OF THE KING, Book Six, Chapter Six, "Many Partings"; pages 322-3 in my old Ballantine Books edition.) Saruman would have to be "the lady", so you can't interpret this too literally. -- -Paul S. R.
