This is one of the organizing principles of Fourier's hilarious utopia
(written in the 1820's) where we'll all be singles, marriages having
been abolished. In spite of his numerous personal quirks, he's been
taken quite seriously and is now a patron saint of both Marxists and 
Freudians.
