I can think of at least two reasons. The first is that if one of {home, work} falls apart, the other often does too. How easily can YOU work with somebody, when the mere sight of that person can bring on a crying fit? The second may not apply to everybody, but I personally need a certain amount of time away from my SO. It's not much, but 'round the clock proximity can get to be aggravating after a while. For me, work time is spent in "chicken- with-its-head-cut-off mode" and is as a result a good time for the SO to be somewhere else. I am defining "working with" somebody as actually having to interact with that person on the job. Somebody whose office is on another floor, and who is in a different division, is another story. I have no problem there. > From: fsks@unc.UUCP (Frank Silbermann) > This is a good policy for someone who puts his career first in his life. > But if I thought I had the opportunity to meet the woman of my dreams, > I wouldn't let a mere _JOB_ get in the way. I suppose if you had been a friend to this person for some time, and KNEW that she was the woman of your dreams, that would be one thing. But think -- how many times have you met a woman who seemed like the answer to your prayers? I have a couple times. I am no longer seeing any of these dream women. Wouldn't it be a drag to endanger your job for a dream lady, and end up with neither? jon -- Jonathan Corbet National Center for Atmospheric Research, Field Observing Facility {seismo|hplabs}!hao!boulder!jon (Thanks to CU CS department)
