My best bosses did (and do) get personally friendly with their employees. The difference is that they don't get personally involved with our personal situations. The worst ones wouldn't get friendly at all. However, one of the wisest things my last boss did when I told him why I didn't go to work one day was to tell me that he understands, but he doesn't want to get involved in the details. -- Robert A.
