It was stated by one "Pooh" that we should, in effect, be doing something useful ( ie: helping Ethiopia, cheering people up, guarding a kibbutz(?)) with our spare time rather than something we find interesting/rewarding/fun [somebody must think Color Analysis is fun or nobody would do it]. Now this is hogwash and balderdash! First and foremost, hobbies, avocational interest, free time activities, etc. are supposed to serve as a release from the pressures of earning a living! I consider my primary social obligation fulfilled by being a honest, hardworking, productive, taxpaying member of my community. Any other *worthwhile* activities I involve myself with I do because it gives me pleasure, not because I feel I ought to. Pooh implies participating in frivolous activities is in some manner disreputable, beneath her consideration, and generally ucky. TO THIS I SAY ............ BUNK! Frivolous, non-productive activity can be very emotionally and spiritually rewarding. I personally rec commend fishing without bait ( I call it Zen fishing). It is a truly cathartic experience. There is way too much emphasis today on making every minute count, choosing productive play, "quality time" and other ways of turning non-vocational periods into nightmares. Cool your jets. Lay back a little . Run your feet through some fresh mown grass. If everybody would just stop taking everything so damn seriously, burnout would be a thing of the past instead of the wave of the future.
