In most species, as sombody else has already noted, the male is much more showy and colorful than the female. And until suits came in for men, male clothing was far more colorful than it is now, with tights, ruffles at neck and wrists, and gobs of gold and jewels. Besides, many men need help learning the basics in later life because they were not taught those basics earlier in life. Oh well, just goes to show that cultural conditioning affects us all.
