[  I don't even know if this deserves a reply but here goes......]

I would probably label myself far from old-fashioned, but I
still think that in many situations, the female 
should initiate the act. ( :-) )

For example, just the other day I met my girlfriend's
(excuse me, my SO's) aunt for the first time.  I don't
think I'd feel comforable reaching out and saying,
"Hihowareya, nice to meetcha" to a distant relative.
