Somehow, we got to discussing important characteristics for SOs. This led to a discussion on the value of intelligence, whereupon, someone asked "Where can I meet 'non-techies'?" while, at the same time, a discussion ensued on "How do you define 'intelligence'?" From these, we got "How do you explain to a non-techie what you do for a living?" and "Does calculus teach logical thinking?" Hence, we have the subjects, "What do you do?" and "Why take CALC?" Actually, the evolution of these discussions was much more involved than this. I merely used a time-lapse terminal to speed things up. What's more, the original discussion took place in either April or May, I can't remember which since entering the Twilight Zone causes me to lose all concepts of time, dimension, and reality.
