This concept of reality as something people filter is great.
I believe Timothy Leary was one of the first to espouse it.
Robert Anton Wilson's book "Prometheus Rising" also discusses
it, and I can't recommend it hightly enough.  He sees us all
as having different reality tunnels.  We all use our own filters
to make meaning out of life.
