A someone else mentioned, they drive (as people in the states would say) like maniacs. In Rome, I never saw one accident. If you are a pedestrian, you approach the street you wish to cross, and hold your hand out, palm down/toward oncoming traffic (as if you were a traffic cop). THE TRAFFIC STOPS FOR YOU!!!! It was incredible. I've never seen anything like it in my life before or since. Even though they are rushing and bustling around, they stop for any pedestrians, almost any time.
