Because of the lower power drain, you get 90 minutes out of a battery rather than 60 on the earlier models. $1061 is a very good local price for the 550, though I've seen ads for New York mail order firms with prices about $970. My local price for the 550 is more like $1400. The 550 is definitely the one to get. 220s and even 110s are still available at lower prices, but why bother? Steve
