Re the discussion about wages, using garbage-collectors as examples:

Around here, "sanitation engineers", or whatever their current job title
is, are more of a subset of heavy-equipment operators; they drive trucks
that pick up dumpsters and little roll-around mini-dumpsters, and never
touch a trash can. (I'm sure there are some who do, collecting the
larger items or shovelling  up the spilled dumpsters, so don't bother to
flame...) But they are better compared to truck drivers and/or
bulldozer, etc., operators than McDonalds' McCounterpeople...
