Didn't the wife of the congressman of the congressman shot down on KAL 007 run for his seat? It is not uncommon for a Governor to appoint a congressman's wife to fill out a term if he dies. Having a wife follow her husband into political office isn't all that uncommon. What do you think Elenor's chances would have been if she had had the democratic nomination in 48? If you were to make a list of the most likely people to succeed Ronald Reagan, I think Nancy would be on the top fifty at least.
