In a discussion on this topic yesterday a group of us figured out how to make all the parties happy. What would happen is that Canada would negotiate some sort of a free trade deal with the US and then Ontario could opt out of the agreement. Under such conditions Ontario would have to maintain its protectionist policies at its taxpayers' expense instead of forcing the rest of Canada to pay for them. Such an agreement should keep all sides happy. Donald Acton
