I sent a question about printers in vms to this forum some time ago
an have received several good hints
but no real solution
as I also have received several signs of misunderstanding let me
try to reformulate the question
but first let me just state this i have used VMS since 1979 (baselevel
5)I hve in use 4 vaxes in a cluster and another 4 on decnet
so please I am no vax novice, this question in not trivial
the questions are
1)I want to set up the system so that the user NEVER sees a phsical
device name I want submit to produced "entered on LP_xxx
I also want to be able to send to the device and to the que
under the same name
(typified by submit/que=abc and copy file abc
I think thta is how trhe spooler system should work !!
in fact I only think thath the physical device namen should
appear at the /on= in the que setup

(there is one real cathc here it is NOT possible to have a que
name and a logicial name the same an acp close file error is produced)
I think we have tried all possible combinations but would gladly
listen to someone thath has found the right combination.

the second question
i want each printer to be assosiated with a paper size (VMS 3 set terminla
/page=)
I want all printouts that are not steted with another form to print with
that page size
wether passed by print/que or by copy to the device
(dont sya it is impossible VMS 3 did just that)
