Our local newspaper carried an AP photo with the following
caption on 9-7-85.

FIRST ARRIVAL
Miss Hawaii Jeanne Miyamoto from Honolulu arrives at her
hotel in Atlantic City yesterday.  Miyamoto, 25, was the
first contestant to come into town for the Miss America
Pageant.  (now for the bizarre line)  This marked the third
year in a row in which a tradition of the 64-year-old
pageant was broken by Miss Alaska not arriving first.

W-E-L-L !!! I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm
pretty ticked off.  Is nothing sacred ??  Just how long in
the ogling public going to tolerate this kind of attitude?
I'm tired of putting asterisks on my score sheets.  Does
three years in a row establish a new tradition? If Miss
Alaska arrives first next year (or some year in the future)
will the old tradition be continued and this new tradition
be broken or will this start another new tradition ?  How
can the Miss America Pageant survive with two compeating
traditions?  Sorry for the flame - but, I'm confused.
