Lines: 24 Xref: linus net.bugs.4bsd:1412 net.unix-wizards:11771 Xpath: icdoc ivax I tried to use the following shell script: set -ex cd du archive > ARCHIVED 2>&1 tar c archive tar tv archive >> ARCHIVED 2>&1 mt offline rm -rf archive The second "tar" said it couln't open the tape. I waited until it rewound and tried again; but no joy. Using "pstat -i", all the open files were on the disk. I resorted to clearing the open-once flag by patching "/dev/kmem". I managed to use the tape drive again but the same problem recurred later. Messages saying "inode table full" appeared some 3 hours later. The system crashed 6 hours after that. I looked at the file "/sys/vaxuba/ts.c" and could see nothing wrong. -- UUCP: ...!seismo!mcvax!ukc!dcl-cs!stephen DARPA: stephen%lancs.comp@ucl-cs | Post: University of Lancaster, JANET: stephen@uk.ac.lancs.comp | Department of Computing, Phone: +44 524 65201 Ext. 4599 | Bailrigg, Lancaster, UK.
