I seem to recall that John Byrne made similar comments on the nature of Kryptonian/Daxamite powers before Jones' article. The X-Men/ Titans teamup magazine that was done was originally planned with the Legion; when that fell through, Claremont et al. decided to have the X-Men face the 'Legion' anyway.
