It's usually sold for auto mechanics since it's great for cleaning the grease off your hands after working on your car. As I understand it, the products contain kerosene as a cleaning agent, and lanolin as a hand conditioner. They work well on your hands with or without water (you need paper towels to wipe your hands on if you don't use water) but I wouldn't want to try to use it on clothing.
