Many of our friends from the sea carry various parasites in various developmental stages that can be very harmful to people. I took a couple of courses in parasitic diseases as an undergrad and if anyone expresses interest I could look up the details (though I'm not sure whether net.cooks is the place for it...) but I do know that raw fish, shellfish, and SNAILS are things to be somewhat wary of.
