I'm using an IBM PC and a Hayes 1200B with Smartcom II. When I try to use vi to edit my stuff on here, I can't get the cursor to move up and down through the text. (Until I switched from "formatted" to "direct" character processing, I couldn't get it to move back and forth either, & had to watch a new line generated for each move of the cursor, as if I had a real teletype here. I still have this problem with up-and-down motion, which means that after switching from line to line a few times, I end up with a screenful of lines out of order & have to list the article to see what I'm doing.) Various people have told me that it's supposed to be possible to get my equipment to emulate a VT100 or a VT52, but as usual there's nothing in the manual about it. Can anyone tell me what I can do to get normal cursor movement? If the answer is to get different software (I hear Crosstalk will do the job) please tell me that. Send mail if you can.
