I agree completely with this, people should never get married because it is the social norm or because they want children, I think that such marriages are doomed to failure. It is very difficult to live with someone and make it work over the long haul. There will be periods when the relationship is not working well and, unless one has thought through all of the implications of and reasons for and against getting married (or moving in with an SO etc.) in the first place, I think there is little chance of working through the problems and making the relationship work again. When you are having problems it is very difficult to think back and try to figure out why you got married in the first place, you are too busy thinking about how rotten you feel.
