The obvious advantage is freedom to come and go as I please, and be able to do as I please in my own apartment. The obvious disadvantage is loneliness, but that's all been talked about, so I'll say no more. As I see it, there are 2 distinct alternatives to living alone. 1) living with roommates, and 2) living with an SO. At this stage in my life, I have no desire for 1). The anti-loneliness benefits it provides can be gotten in other ways. 2) is something I have never done, but I am sure that I would want to under the right circumstances. Sure, there would be many hassles and sacrifices, but there is potential for rewards that cannot be obtained in any other way.
