[elizabeth g. purtell] I've shared a room for most of my life, and I never want to do that again. To those of you who also did so, you can smile knowingly. My brother told me that I'm a whole lot more tolerable from the other side of the apartment. I've lived in two dorms, one semi-commune [def: sharing space with 2 radical feminists and 2 other men], numerous apartments and houses, but never alone. I found that with the right roommates, living with others can be fun, but with the wrong ones, it's an unbelievable mess. I have bad feelings about ever moving in with an SO, because I really need a hole in the wall to retreat to now and then. I've found that the real reason I like having roommates is the same reason I like taking classes: I'm just not too good at meeting people. I don't think living alone is unnatural. I think being lonely is miserable, and having roommates is a fairly easy (but maybe not too successful) way out of being lonely. But there are better ways out of it. Living alone is, whatever else may be said for it, EXPENSIVE! --fini-- Eric McColm UCLA (oo' - kluh) Funny Farm for the Criminally Harmless UUCP: ...!{ihnp4,trwspp,cepu,ucbvax,sdcrdcf}!ucla-cs!mccolm ARPA: mccolm@LOCUS.UCLA.EDU Quotes on the Nature of Existence: "To be, or not to be..." -Hamlet (Wm.
