Why this is so, I don't know. I have washed coloured and white clothes together for years. It has not been my experience that more men than women know how to use tools. Generally, the women don't know how to use them at all and then men know how to use them badly. If you keep doing things like installing phone jacks for your sister you may be stuck with these jobs for a long time. Neither of my parents are real good with hardware and so I used to keep getting phone calls to come home and fix things. Now I'm 2,000 miles away and I guess they had better manage, but it would have been much more convenient if I hadn't set a precident for always being there when the lights went out.
