I am likely to be moving to New York City in the next
month or two to work, but am obviously at sea with finding
places to live (having never been to NY before).

Can someone out there help this beleaguered creature
and mail me some info on this, like where to avoid,
who/what to contact, how it's like, and $$$ ranges,etc.

This may cut it down a bit: I'm single, my office is
on 5th ave. and I am not particularly bothered about size
as long as it's comfortable, but I'll be expecting to stay
for 1+ years.
