Apparently proposals for new group are supposed to be discussed in net.news.group and if the discussion (votes) seem to favor the new group, someone (system administrator) will create it. Its not real clear to me who is to make the decision, or what criteria is to be used in the evaluation. Anyway, if you are in favor of splitting net.auto into two groups, one for technical discussions, the other for non-technical you should subcribe to net.news.group and post your opinion there. I originally suggested net.auto.tech as a technical sub-group of net.auto; others have since suggested net.driving for the non-technical discussion, leaving the technical stuff in net.auto - I have no strong preference either way. I guess if you are opposed to a split, you should also let your voice be heard.
