It is easy in that brake system to cock the caliper to one side and cause it to bind after disassemly. As to why this would occur after a transmission repair , there is a lot of front-end disassembly required to remove a transaxle from these cars. GM issues the dealers some protective covers for the CV joints , but they don't often get used.
