My statement re legality of motorcycle riders passing the stationary cars by driving between lanes was based on the statement of a CHP officer who was instructor for a traffic school I attended to clean up a ticket. The explanation for the reason - re overheating of engines - was provided by a biker. Either way, I am not a biker and personally don't like being startled by a bike zipping past my left elbow. -- Deepak S.
