I am involved with a group of graduate students that are designing
an experiment to study the rotation of 3D graphic images in real
time.  The independent variables are: degree of rotation,
rectangularity vs amorphousness of object, and the type of device
used.  

If anyone knows of any previous related studies, please send mail
