Have him/her look over all the papers and advise you of your >rights, your responsibilities, and what tricks to watch out for. Absolutely! But I would add the following caveat: have a COMPETENT lawyer represent you. I have met up with real turkeys in my real- estate experiences. Some lawyers knew less about the real estate laws than I did. (They would mention something that I knew to be false, and when I would call their attention to it they would say something like, "Gee, I dunno. I always thought it was so..." They would look it up, and find they were wrong. And they charged me for this!) A good way to find a competent lawyer is to ask your banker to recommend one. I knew a retired banker, and the lawyer he recommended was a really sharp guy. This lawyer, of course, did a lot of work for the bank. But banks don't hire turkeys to be their lawyers. (They hire turkeys to be their clerks.) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Dave Kirby ( ...!ihnp4!akgub!cylixd!dave) (The views expressed herein are the exclusive property of Dave Kirby.
