Co., Inc., Everett, WA Lines: 51 Well, the main thing is I liked this film. A lot, perhaps more than anything I saw the previous summer. And it has flaws, several in fact, but none of them enough to even faintly eclipse the delight I found here. Granted, this is one of those films that played certain chords in me which meet with great approval; and while I know most of my friends would not have enjoyed this as much as I did, well... to Hell with everyone else, and comparing it to every other film I've seen, and hedging my bets. I really had a good time at this movie, and that's something I can't say for all the films I saw in August, and most of September and July. I smiled a lot, laughed a good deal, got misty-eyed, and that's justification enough. I assume you aren't just going to my word for it, are you? You want *REASONS* why it's so good, huh? Well, how about Peter O'Toole, for one. He hasn't been this good since _The_Stunt_Man_ (and that's including _My_Favorite_Year_); and he plays a role that absolutely no one else in Hollywood could pull off, the kind of fellow who walks up to God, grabs His shorts, pulls Him down to eye-level, and politely asks "Excuse me, would you mind cleaning up this little mess you've left with my lab assistant? Thank you very much...". There are tons of delightful characters running through this that I would have liked to see more about, Mariel Hemmingway in particular. Pretty good dialogue. A plot which keeps you guessing. Nobody plays stereotypes, not even David Ogden Stiers. Jesus, what do you WANT?! Yes, I know it's got flaws. Vincent Spano needs some work here, but maybe the role calls for a rather innocent character. Oh, and I'm sure some of you find the ending lacking in credibility, huh? Haven't you people ever heard of SUSPENSION OF BELIEF? I found it heartwarming, myself. Hey, Ebert & Siskel! What's wrong with you guys lately? Why the rag? Just because one of you has the natural charm of polyester and the other one looks like a flour sack with poor taste in sweaters is no reason to take it out on. You guys used to review films like you might actually enjoy them on occasion. Frankly, I'm SICK & TIRED OF HAVING TO JUSTIFY MY OPINIONS OF FILMS WITH MINUTE DISECTIONS OF EVERY PART OF THE FILM IN COMPARISON TO PREVIOUS MOVIES! I LIKED _CREATOR_! I... GAACCK! HUUH! BWAAACK! [thump]. [The management would like to apologize for the previous tirade. Apparently Mr. Meyer fell out of his chair and went into a coma. However, his software manager will be talking to him for the next two days, using various threats and insults, until he comes out of it.] "But like the Good Books says... There's BIGGER DEALS to come!"
