First, my opinion:

I liked it. (But then, I liked Rustlers' Rhapsody, Star Wars, Citizen Kane,
The Trial, Thief, Dogs Of War, Harry And Walter Go To New York, ...)

Second, my reasons why:

1.  It's fun. I knew a Biff (doesn't everyone?) as did whoever did the
    casting and makeup/wardrobe; the character was perfect. I also was
    in a high school band that couldn't get a gig, so the chance to sit 
    in with "real muscians" would be to good to miss.  I particularly liked
    the looks on the band members' faces as Marty pulls out all the R & B
    guitar-hero tricks... "What is this white boy doin?!?"

2.  It addresses a very important issue.  Who out there wouldn't like to 
    go back and change something in their past. (I for one would like to
    redo a certain day in 1963 when a Hudson ended my football career.)

    This is especially true of how you view your parents.  I have a very
    good friend whose therapist suggested/insisted that she see BTTF. The
    goal was to examine how she would alter the past to gain insight into
    her relationship with her mother.
    
    The characterizations were overdrawn (probably for the reviewers :-> ),
    but during adolescence *everything* is overdone.  An important point to
    remember is that Marty worked hard to set up a situation where George
    would gain self respect.  Besides, it's always (?) nice to see a bully
    get what he dishes out.
    

    I could go on, but I really should do something to earn my pittance.
