Sometimes radio stations will play different "I want to tell you about Texas radio and the big beat" Ah KVIL! Not on do they censor the lyrics, they also mess with the music, chopping the highs and lows so that Ms Kentucky-Fried-Hairdo won't get a jolt while she's doing her make-up in her Caddy. There are a few bright spots. My confederate on the recent NBB quizzes, George Gimarc, is Program Director for KRQX, a "Big Chill" AM-stereo station that plays stuff from the sixties and seventies. George also hosts a "New Music" show on the sister AOR station KZEW-FM. KNON is a "community" radio station, that plays everything: reggae, punk, pschyobilly, gospel, blues, shows for women by women (IYKWIMAITYD), funk, rap, Jewish music, Vietnamese shows, heck, they even have a Grateful Dead SHOW (and I expect they play Kate Bush :-). KVIL is Dallas' number one station, KNON is always strapped for money, George's show can only get on at 11pm on Sunday nights. I doubt that Dallas is very different from other major metropolitan areas. Depressing isn't it?
