The more I heard the music, the more it intrigued me -- I looked at the display and found out that it was by NICO and her backup band (The Faction). I bought the album immediately and took it home; it's a really interesting piece. Basically, Nico plays music which kind of sounds like Peter Gabriel MUSICALLY -- at least on this album, anyway. The percussionist, Graham Dids, does a lot of really good ominent work, especially on the first cut (the title track). There's an interesting cover of "My Funny Valentine" -- Nico's German, and even though she's spent lots of time in the States (she was apparently Lou Reed's girlfriend at one time, and Jackson Browne's girlfriend before that), her accent's pretty heavy. There's something sublty hilarious about hearing "My Funny Valentine" being sung with a heavy German accent ("Is yur figur less thaan Greeck?"). I like the other numbers a lot too- they do kind of resemble PG, but there should be no comparison made with her and KB -- KB has a much more articulated voice, and her music is much more complex. All in all, an interesting synth-pop minor key percussion- oriented lp. Check it out if it sounds interesting. By the way, if there is anyone out there who has heard of NICO and can recommend other albums by her to me, please write. Also, if anyone knows of any other work by Graham Dids, let me know PLEASE... -- --Rob Rosen ...ucbvax!rosen rosen@ucb-vax.berkeley.edu /* End of text from siemens:net.music */ Brought to you by Super Global Mega Corp .com
