Gee, it looks as if a 70's revival is upon us. > > The survey included old (60's) and recent popular music. If voters > thought that more recent music was better, they would have made > different choices. I think the outcome of this survey demonstrates > the *general* degeneration of popular music after the early 70's. Wrong. The survey demonstrates the tastes of that portion of the USENET community that voted. Nothing more, nothing less. Perhaps the type of person that would vote in such a survey has a leaning towards the style of the early 70's. Perhaps that type of person has a grudge against the more recent styles. Perhaps the voters are of a slightly more advanced age and the music of that time has become an integral part of them. Perhaps those who would vote for more recent music found that there was so much more new product to choose from that each good recent album only got 1 or 2 votes. Who knows? Anyway, I just got back to school and it's time to start the new year with another record buying binge. So if anyone out there has heard any of the following bands or their albums, would they please send me some reviews? Please don't send any music critics' reviews. I'm more interested in the opinion of someone who would actually choose to buy the record. I've put in my opinion on past products to give some of idea of my taste. Thanks in advance. ===================================== Groups whose every product I've heard ===================================== ABC - How To Be A Zillionaire (so far I love the 3 singles) OMD - Crush (I loved "Organization" and "Architecture and Morality" but I was sorely disappointed by "Dazzle Ships" and "Locomotion"(?) except for "Tesla Girls") Bronski Beat - Hundreds and Thousands (I loved everything by them) Thompson Twins - Here's To Future Days ("Don't Mess With Doctor Dream" and the new mix of "Lay Your Hands on Me" I've heard and am not impressed by. All pri- or product I've loved) =========================================== Groups that I've heard a couple of songs by =========================================== Scritti Politti - Cupid and Psyche 85 ("Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)" and "Absolute" were great. Mr Mister - the new LP (I didn't care for the singles from the first album but "Broken Wings" is incredible) The Blue Nile - the current LP ("Stay" is quite a nice cloudy day song) A-Ha - Hunting High And Low ("Take On Me" is OK. I wouldn't buy the LP for it) Iam Siam - She Went Pop ("Talk To Me" is OK when you're in the right mood but I wouldn't sit down and listen to it as a song) Prefab Sprout - the new LP ("When Love Breaks Down" is all I've heard and it's great. I understand this album is produced by Thomas Dolby) Modern Romance - Burn It (Actually I've never heard anything by them, but this album is produced by Tony Visconti whose other work I liked) ==================================== Groups I've heard of but never heard ==================================== (I don't know the names of the albums but I mean the latest LP) Shy Talk Matt Bianco The Adventures The Dream Academy Blue In Heaven Idle Eyes New Regime Propaganda NOMO Rational Youth What Is This Sly Fox Red 7 Strange Advance Once again, thanks in advance for any reviews or comments. _________________________Bert S.F.
