      I've found one enormously successful way of meeting many women.
Get a horse.  Far more women ride than men; the ratio at most barns is
about 5 to 1.  And they are generally good-looking, young, healthy, and in
good shape.  Women used to bossing thousand pound animals around are
spirited enough to be interesting, too.
      There are a few disadvantages.  You have to learn to ride.  This is
time-consuming, difficult, painful, and moderately dangerous.  It took me
a number of years to become a decent rider, and I'm still not really good.
Only after about five years was I really comfortable galloping across country.
Partly this was due to a bad choice of a first horse, a very lively but
skittish ex-racehorse.  My present horse is a big Throroughbred hunter,
who is basically sane while quite strong willed.  (Yes, horses have 
personalities; they aren't that bright, but they show their emotions).
      It's also expensive.  It's not the cost of the horse; it's the upkeep.
Stabling can cost from $60 to $300 per month; horseshoeing alone is
about $60 every six weeks.  And I've had years where my vet bills exceeded
$1000.
      And these big animals require care; it's an obligation to own a horse.
You have to get out to the horse often; several times a week at least; 
twice daily if you are responsible for feeding.  They seldom get sick
if properly cared for, but are prone to minor injuries that require rubdowns
or wraps or bandages or salves or something. 
      But if you can afford the cost, the time, and the injuries, there are
some really good women out there.  And some of them are wild!
