Message-ID: <659@hou2a.UUCP> Date: Mon, 14-Oct-85 09:02:44 EDT Article-I.D.: hou2a.659 Posted: Mon Oct 14 09:02:44 1985 Date-Received: Tue, 15-Oct-85 20:14:42 EDT Organization: AT&T Bell Labs, Holmdel NJ Lines: 33 I just put a deposit down on a Sony CDP-102 CD player. The salesman tried to sell me a 3 year extension over Sony's 1 year warranty for $39.95 . He said that CD players often need cleaning because the laser [lens] gets dirty. They regularly charge $50 for a cleaning. I usually stay away from extended warranties, but this seems almost worth it. The store is a Newmark and Lewis in NY and I can bring the player in for free periodic cleanings during the 4 year warranty period. My question is: How often do Sony CD players (the 102 and 302 in particular) need their optics cleaned? How often do these players need servicing? [If it was a "Magnacrock", I wouldn't hesitate for a second! :-)] If you own a Sony CD player, please drop me a line on what problems (if any) you have had with the unit. Please include the model number, how long you have had it, if you had any problems with it (if so, what?), and how much you use it. I will post a summary of the responses I receive. -- Paul Kemp ihnp4!hou2a!pjk "Boy! You sure ask a lot of questions for someone from New Jersey!" - R.R.
