Lines: 10 From: Henry Kautz For a very insightful, frightening, and hilarious look at the situation of women in "the good old days", read Joyce Carol Oates novel, "A Bloodsmore Romance". It is a pseudo-gothic-romantic-thriller, but is really about the situation of women in Victorian times (and now), the tension between "feminine" and "feminist" literature, and a meditation on the appeal of the romance as a genre (why all all these modern women gobbling up the paperback romance novels?). Also a heck of a good read. Can't be recommended too highly.
