I am running 4.2BSd on a VAX 730. The machine has one R80 on an IDC, a Floating Point Accelerator, and two DMF-32s. There is 2MB of memory. Performance is awful - especially on logins. It takes 35 seconds of CPU time to log in, whereas a VAX 750 takes about 6 seconds. The odd thing is this: Login with password: 35s Login without password: 10s su to user with password: 6s Where has the other 19s gone? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
