R+D, Santa Monica Lines: 57 Summary: In a recent article, Ken Arndt descends from his high tower and attempts to denegrate Sue Brezden. Normally, I respect Ken's articles. This time he is just foaming at the mouth. Many men (and women, and more importantly, clothing manufacturers) seem to wish large women would disappear off of the face of the world. [It looks like we can count Ken among them]. They reflect the current societal viewpoint that "thin is in" or "you can never be too rich or too thin". My opinion: HOGWASH. What is important is being comfortable with yourself, and being able to accept yourself the way you are. Today's society seems to tell women that they can never be the "right size" -- this leads to anorexia and bulimia and other disorders. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH LARGE WOMEN. What makes someone special is not their size but their brain and their capacity for caring. So many <> (that is probably not the right word) in the Computer 'Biz are so afraid of women or so scared to talk to women that they accept the general "fat slob" attitude and refuse to accept people as people. Ken has just shown his acceptance of this theory. I wonder what Ken's wife would think of the attack. As for Sue's complaint, it is valid. For the last 3 years I have been involved with a wonderful woman who happens to wear clothes at the upper end of the large size scale. I have seen the styles go from bulletproof polyester (in around 1981) to reasonable clothes. It looks like the pendulum is now swinging the other way. Large size stores such as Lane Bryant are now owned by the Limited, and often carry crap. Department Stores, such as Pennys, Broadway, or Robinsons that used to have nice selections have seen to have gone to less attractive styles. Luckily, living in LA, we know of quite a few excellent Large Size stores. [Enclose an S.A.S.E for a list :-)]. Our problem has been complicated by the fact that my wife cannot wear polyester. In short, what Sue talks about is true. Well, thats about it. I had something else I wanted to mention but I can't seem to remember it.
