Sc., Edinburgh Univ., Scotland Lines: 44 The following expansion kits are available for 1829 from HARTLAND Trefoil Ltd. 5 Chapel Lane Blisworth Northampton NN7 3BU ENGLAND MSK 1: 6 new tiles for use in the 4th phase, allowing green & russet station tiles to be promoted. MSK 2: 9 new trains (4 different types). MSK 3: Value 4 scrip and current rule book for updating older games. (Games which already have value 4 scrip already have the latest rule book). MSK 4: Computer cassette for 16k or 32k pet, handling all transactions. Speeds up play. SOUTHERN BOARD ONLY. Costs: MSK 1: 70p, MSK 2: 70p, MSK 3: #1.30, MSK 4: ??? postage (within UK) 1-3 items 20p, 4 or more items 30p. I don't know what arrangements they have for overseas customers. REVIEWS: MSK 1: Highly recommended. Once you've used these the end-game will seem dull without them. MSK 2: Variable. Most people I know use them. The 3T train can terminate at small stations as well as large ones, which is vital for the Highland company on the Northern board. The 3+3 train runs twice between the same stations, and is fun. The 6 train is pretty boring. The 4+4E train runs twice between the same 4 stations, and can ignore stations between them (ie the stations do not have to be adjacent). Easily the most profitable train if you can afford it; the style of play changes a bit when you use it. I've never tried using some trains without the others, it's probably not recommended. MSK 3: I haven't seen older versions of the game! MSK 4: Haven't seen it. ethz!wanner uses some computer s/w for 1829, & recommends it. Disclaimer: I am a complete novice at the game. I just enjoy it! -- Dave Berry. CS postgrad, Univ. of Edinburgh ...mcvax!ukc!{hwcs,kcl-cs}!cstvax!db
