Although a general coverage receiver is usually required, one can get a taste of the action using ordinary amateur gear. The 20 meter band coverage on many "amateur band only" transceivers extends to 14.500 MHz, and many non- amateur stations can be heard in the 14.4 - 14.5 MHz region.
