Mark Abrahams) Distribution: net Organization: University of California, Berkeley Lines: 39 UNIX System Manager University of California at Berkeley The Departments of Mathematics and Statistics at UC Berkeley have an immedi- ate job opening for UNIX System Manager. The two Departments operate a joint computing facility which serves their research and instructional needs. The present hardware includes 5 VAX 11-750s running 4.2 BSD UNIX which are networked together and to other campus systems, a Develcon port- selector, an Imagen laser printer, graphics equipment, and other peri- pherals. Several MicroVAX II's are on order. Both Departments anticipate continued expansion of computing facilities for the next several years. The System Manager is responsible for daily operations and long term plan- ning for the entire hardware and system software environment. S/he works with applications software personnel who are responsible for the applica- tions software environment; s/he is assisted by and supervises several technical and clerical staff. Minimum Qualifications: Systems analysis and managerial experience. Exten- sive knowledge of UNIX, including advanced systems programming. Hardware knowledge and troubleshooting. Excellent communications skills. College degree and 5 years additional experience or equivalent education. Salary range is $41,300 to $50,000 per year, depending on experience.
