Maybe, a second level pun?  "Ultramarine" is a common artist's
pigment.  Ultramarine-->Ultramaroon-->Moron

(I once had a teacher who got into trouble by calling a student
a "Moron" -- When called onto the carpet he repented, but ever
since then told the story to all his classes and vowed to use the
word "Maroon" instead.  This incident must predate Bugs Bunny by
at least a decade since it goes back to the 'thirties.)
