I've seen the 1070 monitor in the 640x400 interlace mode: under
flourescent lighting, the flicker is noticeable only when the screen
is trying to display another video mode at the same time.  For instance,
in the Mandril demo, pull the mandril window down, exposing the 
Intuition window underneath - the flicker gets worse - but when the 
Mandril is pushed up to the top, the flicker is lessened.

Under incandescent lighting, the flicker is not really noticeable.
If you look for it, you can see it.  I tried this on an uninformed
IBM PC user, and he couldn't see the flicker until I showed it to him.
