I had the same problems when I first got my ST; a row of little bugs would appear across the middle of the screen and everything stopped. One POSSIBLE explanation for this is that the disk is too close to the video monitor. In an article re-posted to the net concerning the use of 5.25" floppies on the ST, the author mentioned that the ST video monitor puts out unusally high magnetic fields. This might affect the read/write heads on the drive. I had my floppy drive right next to the monitor when I got these errors and after I moved the drive a foot or so away from the monitor I have not had any more problems. - Robert Ling
